That being said, this is a man who has already completed three Utica Shale deals this year. He spent $924 million to buy the 74,000 Utica Shale acres that Hess (NYSE: HES ) sold earlier this year. On top of that, he completed a deal with ExxonMobil's (NYSE: XOM ) XTO Energy unit to fund 100% of the near-term drilling costs of 55,000 net acres in a "core area" of the Utica Shale. In return, McClendon's company will receive ownership of 30,000 net acres from ExxonMobil in the Utica Shale. A third deal brought the company's total haul in the Utica Shale up to 130,000 net acres, which doubled its holdings in the region.

Kodiak has been growing its production very significantly over the past few years. Just last December it was ranked tenth in total Bakken production at 20,423 barrels of oil per day. At the time, the company was producing less than a third of the oil that the top producers in the play where producing. That month Whiting Petroleum (NYSE: WLL ) topped production at 65,156 barrels of oil per day while Continental was second at 65,141 and Hess (NYSE: HES ) was third at 64,657 barrels of oil per day. While this deal won't leapfrog it to the top, when combined with its organic growth it's helping to turn Kodiak into a significant Bakken producer.

Advisors' Opinion:- [By Varun Chandan, Arora]
The sharp decline in freight rates is mainly due to fleet growth and limited cargoes, according to Teekay. The company noted in a recent presentation that ongoing production outages are limiting spot cargoes in the market, and at the same time, the LNG fleet is set to grow by more than 30 ships in 2014. Nearly half of these ships are uncommitted to long-term projects. Back in February Golar LNG Limited (NASDAQ: GLNG ) described the LNG tanker market as very challenging due to these reasons.
