Whole Foods Market, Inc. (NASDAQ: WFM) may have just telegraphed the peak of the growth trends in organic and high-priced groceries. For years we have argued that investors need to think of Whole foods as a luxury goods destination rather than being in an industry dominated by low-margin supermarket stores. Now Whole Foods is finding again that growing pains come in measured steps, and the trends elsewhere may have even started catching up to the company.
In the latest quarterly earnings report, Whole Foods showed that same-store sales were up a mere 5.9%. That is great for other chains, but investors demand more of this luxury food giant.
The latest quarterly earnings came to $121 million, or $0.32 per share. Revenue growth was only 2% to $2.98 billion. We had estimates pegged at $0.31 in earnings per share, but the revenue expectations were $3.04 billion. That 2% sales growth was represented as being from the 13-week period last year and an increase of 11% on a comparative 12-week basis, so growth is perhaps better than it sounds on the surface.

- [By WWW.DAILYFINANCE.COM] Slow but steady -- that seems to be the new mantra here on Wall Street. The Dow Industrials and the S&P 500 plowed further into record territory on Friday. The catalyst for today's advance was the monthly jobs report, which showed the total number of people employed finally topped the 2008 peak it hit just before the Great Recession took hold. The Dow Jones industrial average (^DJI) gained 88 points, the Standard & Poor's 500 index (^GPSC) rose 9, and the Nasdaq composite (^IXIC) gained 25 points. Financial stocks helped lead the advance. Goldman Sachs (GS) and American Express (AXP) both gained more than 2 percent. Bank of America (BAC) rose 1 percent on reports that it's in talks with the Justice Department to settle another set of probes into the bank's handling of mortgages leading up to and during the financial crisis. News reports say the company could pay more than $12 billion, which is more than it earned in all of 2013. But this could allow Bank of America to finally put this long-running problem behind it. Its stock has been virtually flat over the past 6 months. Amazon (AMZN) posted a strong gain for second straight day, rising 2 percent, on indications that it's about to enter the smartphone business. And Sears (SHLD) gained nearly 2 percent on a Reuters report that the company's chairman has held talks with outgoing Ford (F) CEO Alan Mulally, sparking rumors that he might head the retailer's turnaround effort. Elsewhere, Hertz (HRZ) drove into a ditch, sliding 9 percent after saying it will restate earnings from 2011 through 2013 because of accounting issues. Diamond Foods (DMND) fell 11 percent. Its quarterly loss widened, due to higher wholesale prices for nuts. But Vail Resorts (MTN), Men's Wearhouse (MW), and VeriFone (PAY) all gained after beating expectations. Vail was up 6 percent; Men's Wearhouse rose 5½ percent; and VeriFone jumped 9 percent. Demand for its merchant payment systems has been helped by growing con

Advisors' Opinion:- [By Roberto Pedone]
One name that's starting to trend within range of triggering a near-term breakout trade is AthenaHealth (ATHN), which is a provider of Internet-based business services for physician practices. This stock has been on fire so far in 2013, with shares up sharply by 57.4%.
If you look at the chart for AthenaHealth, you'll notice that this stock recently gapped up sharply from $92.50 to its high of $116.18 a share with heavy upside volume. Following that gap, shares of ATHN pulled back to a low of $107.68 a share, before entering a consolidation pattern between $112.50 and its new 52-week high at $116.44 a share. This stock now looks ready to trigger a breakout trade and take out the upper-end of its consolidation chart pattern.
Traders should now look for long-biased trades in ATHN if it manages to break out above some near-term overhead resistance levels at $116 to its 52-week high at $116.44 a share with high volume. Look for a sustained move or close above those levels with volume that hits near or above its three-month average action of 500,969 shares. If that breakout triggers soon, then ATHN will set up to enter new 52-week-high territory, which is bullish technical price action. Some possible upside targets off that breakout are $125 to $130, or even $140 a share.
Traders can look to buy ATHN off any weakness to anticipate that breakout and simply use a stop that sits right below some near-term support at $112.50 a share, or down near more support at $110 a share. One can also buy ATHN off strength once it takes out those breakout levels with volume and then simply use a stop that sits a comfortable percentage from your entry point.
This is another name that is very popular among the bears, since the current short interest as a percentage of the float for ATHN is extremely high at 23.9%. If that breakout triggers soon, then ATHN could explode higher, so make sure to keep this name on watch.

All mREITs are taking it on the chin
The agency crew, led by heavy hitters Annaly Capital (NYSE: NLY ) , American Capital Agency (NASDAQ: AGNC ) , and Armour Residential (NYSE: ARR ) , have all been close to hitting 52-week lows, but the blood-letting hasn't stopped there. Even hybrid mortgage REITs, which also buy some non-agency paper, have plunged, as well. Two Harbors (NYSE: TWO ) , which enjoyed such a nice lift post-earnings about a month ago, recently sunk to new lows, and Invesco Mortgage Capital (NYSE: IVR ) has also slipped, even after its CIO's recent show of faith, making a sizable insider purchaseof stock less than two weeks ago. - [By Amanda Alix]
Putting things in perspective
Perhaps in response to such concerns, hybrid mREIT Two Harbors (NYSE: TWO ) recently released a useful investor primer on the industry, giving a much clearer view of just where mREITs stand compared to other mortgage players.

Advisors' Opinion:- [By Sean Williams]
Whom it competes against
In addition to competing against other trucking companies, perhaps nothing stands as more of a brick wall than labor costs. The inability for Arkansas Best (NASDAQ: ABFS ) to strike a collective bargaining agreement between its ABF Freight Systems subsidiary and the teamsters union nearly resulted in the company laying off 15%-20% of its workforce just to keep its costs competitive with its peers. You can literally see how important having competitive labor costs can be by the doubling in Arkansas Best's share price since the collective bargaining deal was announced.
