In a letter to Men's Wearhouse CEO Douglas Ewert dated today, Jos. A Bank said it was yanking its unsolicited $48 per share all-cash offer it made on Sept. 18, saying Men's Wearhouse failed to "engage in good faith negotiations. Jos. A. Bank had set a deadline of Nov. 14, which was yesterday, for Men's Wearhouse to engage in deal discussions.
Men's Wearhouse shares were down 54 cents, or 1.2%, to $45.58 in pre-market trading. USA TODAY sent an e-mail to MW's investor relations seeking comment.
In the letter, Jos. A. Banks noted that despite its initial bid for Men's Wearhouse, which marked a 40% premium for the shares from the closing price before news of the acquisition plan became public, its offer was rejected by Men's Wearhouse, which called the deal "opportunistic" and "inadequate."

Movers and shakers: Alcoa Inc. (AA) �shares dropped 5.4% after the aluminum producer said it swung to a fourth-quarter loss. The firm also said Thursday it had settled charges of corruption in Bahrain with a $384 million payout to the Securities and Exchange Commission and Department of Justice. Abercrombie & Fitch�� shares (ANF) �rallied 12% after the firm raised its full-year adjusted earnings projections. Gap Inc. (GPS) � gained 1.1% after saying it expects full-year earnings near the top of its projected range of $2.57 to $2.65. The firm also said same-store sales in December were flat, missing expectations of a 1.5% increase, according to a survey of analysts by Thomson Reuters. Sears Holdings Corp. (SHLD) �disappointed the market with plunging same-store sales, sending its shares tumbling 13.8% Friday. The company said it had a 7.4% decline in quarter-to-date holiday-season comparable sales. Five Below Inc. (FIVE) �tanked 7.2% after updating its guidance for the three months ended January 4. The retailer said it now expects adjusted per share profit to be between 44 cents and 46 cents. In December, the firm said it expected adjusted profit of 49 cents to 51 cents.

Job creation last month was shockingly weak, but analysts couldn't really explain why –- other than to blame the weather -- which left investors unsure how to react Friday. Many analysts say the numbers are likely to be revised higher next month, and in the end, market reaction was muted. The Dow Jones industrial average (^DJI) lost ground for a third straight day, declining nearly 8 points, but the Standard & Poor's 500 index (^GPSC) added 4, and the Nasdaq composite index (^IXIC) rose 18 points. Target (TGT) lost more than a point after saying the data breach that began on Black Friday was much worse than previously thought. The company now says as many as 70 million customers had personal information stolen. Target also lowered its fourth quarter outlook, partly because sales slumped after the data breach was first revealed. Sears (SHLD) tumbled by around 13.5 percent. It expects a big quarterly loss as sales fell during the holiday shopping season. Several smaller, specialty retailers also fell: Pacific Sunwear (PSUN) slid 16 percent, Five Below (FIVE) fell 7 percent, Shoe Carnival (SCVL) lost 5 percent, and Conn's (CONN) lost 2 percent. But Abercrombie & Fitch (ANF) jumped 12 percent. It raised its earnings forecast as sales were not as bad as expected. Elsewhere, Alcoa (AA) fell about 5.5 percent. It's not quite the economic bellwether it used to be, but the aluminum giant still matters, and its net came in a bit shy of expectations. YRC Worldwide (YRCW) tumbled 13 percent after workers rejected a contract offer. That has raised fears the trucking company could be forced into bankruptcy. On the upside, the weak jobs report could keep mortgage rates from rising, and that boosted housing stocks. Accenture plc (NYSE: ACN) announced a 14.8%, or $0.12 per share, increase to its semiannual dividend. The management consulting firm will now pay a semiannual dividend of $0.93. Shares yield 2.53%. Agruim Inc. (NYSE: AGU) boosted its dividend by $1.00 per share to a total dividend of $3.00 on an annualized basis. Shares of the global retailer of agricultural products now sprout a 3.54% yield. Air Industries Group Inc. (NYSE: AIRI) doubled its dividend to $0.125 per share. The maker of airplane and helicopter parts now floats a lofty yield of 6.6%. Alexandria Real Estate Equities Inc. (NYSE: ARE) upped its dividend 4.6% to $0.68 per quarter for a yield of 4.21%. Banner Corp. (Nasdaq: BANR) boosted its quarterly dividend 25% to $0.15 per share. The parent company of Banner and Islander Bank serves the Pacific Northwest region. Brady Corp. (NYSE: BRC) lifted its quarterly dividend 2.6% to $0.78 per share. Unfortunately, the Chinese frozen food market is an oligopoly, which means there aren't U.S. listed stocks that stand to benefit at this point, apart from General Mills (GIS) subsidiary Wan Chai Ferry. To give credit where it's due, Cytomedix, Inc. (OTCBB:CMXI) and Baxter International Inc. (NYSE:BAX) have both helped shape the landscape of the hemostasis (bleeding control) market with their products, AutoloGel and TISSELL, respectively. Arch Therapeutics Inc.
